Mchunu appears before ANC's Integrity Commission

JOHANNESBURG – African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) member, Senzo Mchunu, has had his first say before the party’s Integrity Commission, amid allegations that he has links to criminal syndicates.

Mchunu is one of three embattled ANC members who have been hauled before the party’s accountability structure.

In a bombshell exposé earlier in July, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi implicated Mchunu and his predecessor, Bheki Cele, as being directly involved in the rot within the police service.

This, while Nobuhle Nkabane is accused of lying to Parliament in her appointment of a board for the Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA).

Mchunu, Nkabane and Cele, all ANC members allegedly embroiled in corruption, had their first appearance before the integrity commission of their political home as the quest to uncover the truth behind the allegations against them continues.

ANC national spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, said, “The commission is really inundated and is seized with all of these matters. We’re confident knowing the nature of the integrity commission about their thoroughness and thoughtfulness that goes into engaging each of these individuals that are deployees of the ANC.”

Although the process is still underway, the party said it would like to see the proceedings concluded expeditiously.
