CAPE TOWN - Police are yet to make a breakthrough in their investigation into the murder of a prominent Cape Town taxi figure.

Mongi Titi was shot and killed at the Nyanga taxi rank last Wednesday.

Titi was an executive member of the CATA Regional Taxi Association.

Wednesday marks exactly a week since Mongi Titi's murder.

Detectives attached to the Provincial Taxi Violence Unit are hunting the gunmen, who are understood to have approached Titi's vehicle at the Nyanga taxi rank, before opening fire.

Titi has been described as a sharp, committed, and principled individual whose insights and dedication to the sector would be profoundly missed.

The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) is pleading with authorities to leave no stone unturned to ensure Titi's killers are put behind bars.

The council's Western Cape chairperson, Mandla Hermanus said that Titi played a crucial role in the minibus taxi industry's efforts to ensure peace and stability and was also at the forefront of driving transformation and the formalisation of the industry.
