CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape is calling on the national Department of Transport to replace the country’s only driving licence printer machine.

It said the already outdated machine has been out of order since January.

The party’s Nomafrench Mbombo said the recurring issue must be resolved because citizens cannot solely rely on a temporary licence.

"In 2022, the country faced the same issue of inconvenience, a breakdown of a basic service. South Africans require a valid driver's licence to drive on the country's roads. It's not sustainable and unacceptable the entire country depends on one outdated machine to issue out licences.”
