Eskom to suspend load shedding after implementing Stage 2

JOHANNESBURG - Eskom is expected to suspend load shedding on Thursday, after implementing Stage 2 on Wednesday night.

The power utility suffered a loss of five generation units on Wednesday, placing pressure on the national grid.

After keeping the lights on for a record run last year, challenges at Medupi, Camden and Majuba power stations dealt Eskom a blow to its clean slate.

Stage 6 load shedding took the country by surprise earlier this year, with power cuts since alternating between Stages 1 and 4.

“In light of the ongoing system constraints, we urge the public to use electricity sparingly. Eskom sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused and will continue to provide updates as required,” said Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena.
