JOHANNESBURG - In an unprecedented move - National Assembly speaker Thoko Didiza announced that the budget speech will not be taking place as planned on Wednesday.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana was meant to take to the podium at 2pm - to deliver the first budget under the Government of National Unity (GNU).
This meant - for the first time since democracy – Godongwana had to consider not only the African National Congress (ANC) and its alliance but also coalition partners – all of whom have already indicated they won’t support higher taxes.
